NEW at OKEMO for 2007 TRAILS GROOMING, SNOWMAKING & MORE LUDLOW, VT Okemo Mountain Resorts continued guest satisfaction velocity, otherwise known as OKEMOMENTUM, means more improvements for skiers visiting the popular resort this winter. One of the highlights for the 2006-07 winter season is the reintroduction of two new trails with the addition of high-performance, energy-efficient snowmaking equipment. Other enhancements include new grooming machines, expanded water storage for snowmaking, on-mountain dining enhancements, and additional recreational amenities at Jackson Gore, Okemos newest base area facility. NEW TRAILS AND SNOWMAKING The two newest trails in Okemos vast network of mountain terrain, Big Bang and Eclipse, were reintroduced this winter with one major difference snowmaking. Although both trails officially opened last winter, the lack of natural snowfall drastically limited accessibility to Okemos newest snow sliding offerings. The most exciting quality of Big Bang is its designation as a doubleblack diamond the only non-gladed trail to receive that distinction at Okemo. Eclipse is a black-diamond trail that also offers challenge and excitement for advanced skiers and riders. Fifty new high-performance, energyefficientHKD tower guns ensure coverage on the resorts newest trails, both located at Jackson Gore. This years increased snowmaking brings the total number of snowmaking guns to 1,100 and raises Okemos total snowmaking acreage to 605 that is 97 percent of all terrain. GROOMING EXCELLENCE Okemos reputation for grooming excellence continues this winter with the introduction of four new Prinoth B350 grooming machines, one outfitted with a Sherpa overhead winch. The result of this introduction to the fleet means wide ribbons of corduroy for skiers and riders who love to make tracks on the seamless carpets of snow Okemo is so famous for. SNOWMAKING WATER STORAGE Okemos dedication to providing a quality snow surface is directly proportionate to the amount of water that can be stored for making snow among other things. With the addition of Jackson Gore, Okemos demand for water increased substantially. What was previously a 70- million- gallon snowmaking pond is now a massive, 70- foot-deep reservoir that holds 155 million gallons of water. In a typical year, Okemo pumps about 450 million gallons of water through its snowmaking system. Last year, Okemo converted more than .5 billion gallons of water into packed-powder conditions. At capacity, Okemos snowmaking system uses two crews of 10 to 12 people on the hill. The system can pump 9,000 gallons of water and 37,000 cubic feet of compressed air per minute and requires about 6,000 kilowatts of electricity per hour. ON-MOUNTAIN DINING One of Okemos most popular features is the variety and the caliber of its on-mountain dining options. This winter, Okemo stepped up its culinary efforts with a brand new dining experience at the Solitude Village. The new restaurant, called Epic, will offer a distinct Epicurean experience. The Vermont Pizza Company moved from the Roundhouse at Jackson Gore to Sugar House Lodge just above the Okemo Clock Tower base area. In its place, diners will enjoy Siena, a new Italianstyle eatery offering more eclectic Mediterranean fare. At Okemos original base area, an enhanced culinary experience will include an entirely new menu at the popular Sitting Bull as well as improvements for those who prefer to grab and go. JACKSON GORE AMENITIES At Jackson Gore, three new buildings were completed in time for this years ski season. The Adams House, the first of three new slope-side residential buildings, offers 39 vacation ownership residences in a variety of one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. Okemo Mountain Resorts new source for relaxation and rejuvenation, The Spring House, is a two-level, 18,000-square-foot fitness and aquatic center featuring a two-lane lap pool and a childrens pool, ranging in depth from six inches to 18 inches. A frog slide and numerous splash and water fountain features have families enjoying their off-snow time together. In addition, in the pool area of the building, a 10-person hot tub includes an ADAcompliant accessible ramp. The facility has locker rooms, a multi-purpose space for fitness classes, a large room for weights and cardio equipment, a racquetball court and a small retail shop and juice bar called The Well. Jackson Gores third new amenity is The Ice House, a multi-functional, year-round sports arena. The main building, a pre-engineered steel structure, houses a 115- by 215-foot skating rink in winter and a tennis court and basketball court, surrounded by a single-lane jogging track, in summer. The adjacent amenity-and-support building features a gas-fueled fireplace for skaters to warm themselves in winter. Skate rentals are available and an ice resurfacing machine keeps the skating surface smooth and in top condition. For more information please www.okemo.com, or call 1-866-746-5366 or 1-800-786-5366. MUELLERS GO GREEN TO POWER WHITE
LUDLOW, Vt. - Tim and Diane Mueller, owners of Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont, Mount Sunapee Resort in New Hampshire, and Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado, have entered into an agreement with Gunnison County Electric Association to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates from Sterling Planet, the nation's leading retail renewable energy provider. Demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship, the Muellers are purchasing 27 million kilowatt hours of Sterling Planet's Renewable Energy Certificates from Gunnison County Electric Association, a member-owned, non-profit cooperative located in Colorado. This represents enough renewable (wind) power to fully offset the annual use of electricity by the Mueller's three resorts. ( Protection of the environment is one of our core values. It is also very important to our guests, says Tim Mueller. We have the ability to demonstrate that Okemo, Mount Sunapee and Crested Butte are good community partners and corporate citizens working toward energy independence for America through clean, renewable sources like wind energy. This purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates will supply the Muellers three resorts with enough energy to power all electrical needs for the next year. It will save an estimated 18,800 tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. This is equivalent to emissions produced by the annual electricity consumption of approximately 2,200 average homes or carbon dioxide emissions associated with the combustion of 1.9 million gallons of gasoline. Tim and Diane Mueller are the owners and operators of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, in Crested Butte, Colo., and Okemo Mountain Resort, in Ludlow, Vt. They also lease and operate Mount Sunapee, in Newbury, N.H. They operate their three resorts under the name of Triple Peaks, LLC. NY GOVERNOR PROVIDES $5 MILLION for WHITEFACE IMPROVEMENTS
LAKE PLACID, NY Governor George E. Pataki committed $5 million in state funding for Whiteface Mountain Ski Center to improve snowmaking, grooming and trail maintenance, expand educational programs, and upgrade facilities and operations at the popular, worldclass Adirondack winter destination. The Adirondacks are home to some of the worlds best skiing, and this funding will ensure that the facilities at Whiteface will be top of the line, Governor Pataki said. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people travel to the Lake Placid region to live their own Olympic dreams, and there are a host of recreational opportunities for them to enjoy. This new funding will allow ORDA to make critical investments in these facilities and teach a new generation how to ski, which will translate into tourism dollars for the entire region. The Olympic slopes of Whiteface Mountain offer an incredible experience for experts and beginners alike. This investment will help ensure that Whiteface remains at the top of the list of world-class ski destinations, remarked Senator Betty Little. Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward expressed, Ongoing investments must be made in order to maintain the Lake Placid region as an international winter sports capital. With the Governors announcement today, the winter sports experience at Whiteface will be improved and the regions economy will get a much needed boost. The $5 million in funding allowed the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) to undertake a variety of projects to upgrade facilities and services at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center. These include: The renovation and expansion of its Kids Kampus The construction of a new 350-space parking lot Roof repairs at the main base lodge The purchase of energy-efficient snow guns and bringing more water to the intake at pump house 1 to increase snowmaking Replacement of existing air and water lines for snowmaking between pump houses 2 and 3 with larger steel-welded pipes for the purpose of increased snowmaking capacity The purchase of new snow groomers and transport snow cat Trail maintenance of some existing runs Creation of the Excelsior Bypass to the Connector trail to aid traffic flow Roof repairs at the castle atop the Whiteface Mt. Veterans Memorial Highway, along with improvements to the elevator that brings visitors to the summit castle. Empire State Development Chairman Charles A. Gargano said, Improving these facilities will lead to an increase in tourism to the Adirondacks, which is great news for New York States economy. This investment will result in upgrades that benefit both residents and tourists seeking to enjoy renowned Gore and Whiteface Mountains. ORDA President and CEO Ted Blazer said, With the Governors great assistance, in the past 10 years we have made Whiteface synonymous with outstanding skiing and riding experiences. The upgrades, which started with gondolas at both areas in the late 90s, have seen our visitations increase consistently over that time, and that means greater economic impact for the respective regions. With this next phase, we will continue the process of enhancing our on-snow products and childrens programming to make us leaders in the competition that is so strong among resorts in the Northeast. During the 2005-06 winter season, Whiteface Mountain saw an increase of 17,618 skier days over the previous year. Overall, ORDA facilities welcomed 390,560 visitors at its five facilities, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year. Whiteface Mountain has the greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies, 3,430 feet, and its race courses are fully sanctioned for international competitions. From 2002 to 2004, Ski Magazine readers rated Whiteface the No. 1 ski resort in the Eastern United States, and it ranked second last year. The Whiteface - Lake Placid region has been rated the number one resort in North America for off-hill activities by these readers for 14 consecutive years. Whiteface also won the National Ski Area Associations Silver Eagle Award in 2002 for Environmental Excellence in Fish and Wildlife Habitat Protection. Since 1995, Governor Pataki has provided more than $70 million for venue upgrades at ORDA facilities, including $18 million to support the construction of a new bobsled, luge, and skeleton track on Mt. Van Hoevenberg, which opened in 2000. For pricing and scheduling info on ORDA venues and events and for web cams from five locations, please log on to www.whitefacelakeplacid.com. GORE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE FOR THE 2007 SEASON NORTH CREEK, NY Four new trails added more Gore and more fun and variety to Gore Mountains terrain last season. If you missed sliding down any of these, heres a quick review. Woodchuck is a new intermediate on the High Peaks Side, offering a narrow, winding adventure from the Wood Lot trail. Darbys Woods for experts is accessible from Lower Cloud near the Lower Darby entrance. Two new glades were made accessible from the Bear Mountain summit, they were Pinebrook Glades and The Cave Glades. The latter features a real cave along the trail. With these terrain additions, Gore Mountain offers 344 acres of skiing, the most in New York State. Gore Mountain expanded its grooming fleet last fall, and added 70 new tower guns, four new fan guns, and a new pump for snowmaking. The new pump has provided an additional 800 gallons per minute of pumping capacity. Behind-the-scenes work can make all the difference to a skiers experience. Infrastructure improvements for more efficient grooming and snowmaking, particularly on the newer Bear Mountain terrain, will pay off significantly for guests during the upcoming seasons. Since the beginning of ski season always puts snowmakers to the test, last season Gore continued to make significant snowmaking improvements will continue to have more Gore Mountain trails open earlier. Over the years Gore Mountain has increased its fleet of 120 tower guns by almost 60 percent. Gore Mountain uses tower guns on seven trails and four fan guns were also added to the snowmaking fleet last season. Using a virtually endless source of water from the Hudson River, Gore Mountain has had a pumping capacity of 4,800 gallons of water per minute (GPM), which was increased by 800 GPM to a total of 5,600 GPM when another pump was added. Skiers last season enjoyed the new tower guns that were installed top-to-bottom on Twister, Gore Mountains race trail. Trail crews widened Twister from 60 to 80 feet wide to 120 feet wide in some areas. That allowed more high-profile racing events to be hosted on those trails. Last year also saw improvements to the base lodge cafeteria and Saddle Lodge. A modernization of the food service area to a food court layout provided a nicer dining ambience and enhanced guest experience. The complete renovation of the Saddle Lodge featured new tables and chairs, a new fireplace, and full food and beverage service. SEVEN SPRINGS UPGRADES WILL STILL HAVE YOU YODELING From Trails to Snowmaking Last Seasons Improvements Will Continue to Delight CHAMPION, PA It will continue to snow more of what skiers love at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. A challenging new black diamond ski run, a new terrain park and the addition of state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment enhanced the experience last season and will again have skiers yodeling for the first snow. CAN YOU YODEL? Yodeler is the expert run on the North Face of the mountain between Gunnar slope and Turtleneck Glades. It merges into the narrower Turtleneck Trail. Yodeler duplicates Turtleneck Trails challenging, winding and steep terrain, said Dick Barron, director of ski operations, Seven Springs. He noted that Yodeler offers spectacular views, allowing skiers and boarders to see as far away as the Pittsburgh skyline. Skiers can exit or enter the more challenging Turtleneck Glades run at several points. THRILLS, CHILLS ADDED TO TERRAIN PARKS Equipment, a new park and better conditions were installed to the terrain park experience at Seven Springs to accommodate the hundreds of skiers and snowboarders using the parks on weekends. The intermediate to advanced park is located on the skiers right of Giant Steps slope. It joins Arctic Blast for ages 4 to 7, Santas Beard for intermediates and Sunset Park for the advanced. All four of the terrain parks will have dedicated staff to maintain, build and improve the experience. Weve added some exciting features to help reinvent the challenges every few weeks and keep the parks continually fresh and thrilling at each level of difficulty, Barron said. Added to Sunset Park were more advanced features, including a curved C rail and a state-of-the-art Zaugg half-pipe groomer. Popular in Western resorts, the Zaugg helps create a half-pipe that is 40 feet to 50 feet wide with sloped sides that skiers can go up, over and back across. MORE SNOWMAKING MORE OF THE TIME Skiers on every slope will experience the benefits from past extensive upgrades to Seven Springs snowmaking equipment. With the touch of a button, new radio-controlled automatic snowmaking equipment blasts snow onto the Stowe, Avalanche and Goosebumps slopes. The automated equipment, with manual override, has a continuous string of guns from the top to the bottom of the mountain. We can make greater amounts of snow in less time since the automated equipment eliminates the need to manually turn each snow gun on and off, Barron said. He added that the state-of-the-art equipment would free up manpower. This permits the staff to concentrate on grooming other slopes, bringing the entire snowmaking capability to a new level. Seven Springs Mountain Resort, located in Champion, Pa., is Pennsylvanias largest ski and year-round resort, and was recently rated No. 1 in the mid-Atlantic region by readers of SKI magazine. Located within 200 miles of the major metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C., Seven Springs is easily accessible from either exit 91 or 110 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. For more information on Seven Springs, visit www.7springs.com or call 1-800-452-2223. ###

WINDHAM IMPROVES with $5 MILLION in LIFTS, TRAILS and FACILITIES WINDHAM, NY Windham Mountain has completed the largest single year of capital improvements in its 46- year history. The improvements affected all areas of the mountain. The finished product is certain to give guests more time on the slopes, more terrain to conquer, more off mountain activities, new dining experiences, and an overall improved onmountain experience. THREE NEW TRAILS Each peak at Windham Mountain has developed its own group of devoted skiers and riders over the years. Even though the two peaks are virtually the same elevation, they have different characteristics. A midmountain chairlift ride unloads at East peak and accesses a more isolated network of trails that include challenging black diamonds and arguably the best green cruiser on the mountain. The main peak, accessible by a speedy detachable quad, offers a more open network of greens, blues, and double diamonds. The addition of three new trails helps unify the peaks and improve the overall mountain experience, said Tim Woods, general manager of the resort. Diehard devotees of each peak will find themselves taking advantage of all the terrain we offer. The longest of the three new trails is a classic New England intermediate off the summit of East peak that winds its way down the forest and into the greater trail system. The trail exits at Way To Go and will allow skiers and snowboarders to reach any lift in the base area. The two other trails, while a bit shorter, have the same characteristics and will greatly improve circulation to and from East peak. And of course all this new terrain sports state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment. THREE NEW LIFTS Skiers and riders will be sure to spend more time on East Peak because the G lift triple chair has been replaced with a highspeed, detachable quad. Theres no doubt that a major reason for lesser traffic on East peak was the almost 9-minute lift ride to the summit, Ed Koller, PR manager at Windham Mountain, said. The new high speed detachable quad will cut that ride time to 4 minutes, giving skiers and snowboarders more time on the fantastic terrain, old and new. The G lift stations and towers have also been repositioned to allow for improved loading access. The C lift has been upgraded to a more modern, comfortable triple chair and covers a longer distance at a faster rate. We really enjoy getting feedback from our guests and we considered many of their suggestions when we upgraded C Lift, Woods said. One frequent suggestion was to make C Lift easier to access from the base area, and we obliged. The base terminal is now much closer to the base area and lodge and the unloading terminal is higher up mountain and moved to skiers right so Warmup and Wonderama are reached without hiking. Most of the new towers have been moved off Wonderama so now the run has almost no obstructions. A new magic carpet lift has also been added for the 2006-07 season. The 170- foot lift will allow residents of the onmountain, Enclave condominium community to use the lift to access the base area, lodge and main lifts. The lift will also expand the beginner terrain and allow for station-to-station lessons. NEW ICE SKATING RINK The Mountain Top Adventure Park now has another family attraction to go with snow tubing. The new 120- by 60-foot ice skating rink is a beautiful addition to our satellite facility. The rink has its own timber-framed skate rental and warming center and outdoor fire pit. One of our top priorities is to offer our guests more fun and entertaining off-mountain activities, Koller said. The ice rink will be a great compliment to our tubing park. The two areas will be linked by a lighted walking path. Snacks and beverages are available on site in the skating and tubing center. TRAILS END RESTAURANT The space formerly known as Vines Bistro at the Winwood Inn was completely gutted and renovated. With a dazzling new interior, spacious bar, and a great new menu of creative comfort food, this will be a popular après ski spot for Windham Mountain guests. Windhams new Executive Chef Timothy Adams launched the new restaurant. Tim attended culinary school at SUNY Cobleskill and honed his skill set in the Capital District at such venues as Justins, Unique Catering and Milano Restaurant, and local favorites Vesuvios Restaurant and The Millrock. His knowledge of the area has helped him create the menu at Trails End to entice the palates of the guests and local clientele. Tim will also be heading the food service operations at Windham Mountain for the upcoming season. The Trails End Tavern & Grill has something for everybody at affordable prices that both snow lovers and off-season vacationers will appreciate, Adams said. We offer creative and familiar dishes from pit-smoked baby back ribs, to seared tuna filet, and drinks from microbrews to milkshakes. Great new finishings like our openhearth fireplace, outdoor fire pit will surely help you relax and enjoy yourself. AMENITIES Many new improvements have been completed on the resorts outdoor deck, as well. The largest item is a new state-of-the art barbecue for those who want to get a quick bite without going to the lodge. The resort now has fire pits on the back deck, the skating rink, and the Trails End Tavern & Grill at the Winwood Inn, so guests have three outside areas where they can warm up, recharge or just relax by the radiant heat. Also coming soon to the mountain is a new Euro bungee area and a rock-climbing wall. And this spring Mountain Top Adventure Park at the resort will introduce a zip line and a skateboard park and will also open Mountain Invasion Paintball for its third season. For more info, please log on to WIndhams web site at www.windhammounatin.com or via an easily found link on the homepage of www.skiernews.com. You can also call Windham at 1-800-754-9463. ###
