SOUTH LAKE TAHOE RESORTS & LODGING

HEAVENLY'S 2007-08 IMPROVEMENTS ARE

HIGHLIGHTED by NEW CHAIR and ZIPLINE

Olympic Express and Heavenly Sky Flyer are the First Two Major Projects under Heavenly's Ten-Year Master Plan

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV — With its recently approved Master Plan Amendment in hand, Heavenly Mountain Resort continues to publicize the resort improvements for 2007-08. This is the opening salvo in what is expected to be 10 years of continued upgrades. Guests can look forward to a steady stream of new lifts, on-mountain restaurants, lodging and base villages that will greatly improve the overall experience at Lake Tahoe’s leading destination resort.

“The improvements outlined under the Master Plan will solidify Heavenly’s position as the premier snowsports destination at Lake Tahoe,” said Blaise Carrig, Heavenly’s chief operating officer. “We’re extremely excited about the next 10 years, as well as this winter, with the opening of Olympic Express and the Heavenly Sky Flyer zip line.”

The new Olympic Express detachable quad chairlift provides high-speed access to Olympic Downhill, three new trails and NevadaWoods – home to some of the best tree skiing in North America. It allows guests to more easily experience a part of the mountain that has been underused due to the existing fixed-grip lift. Olympic Express also gives guests accessing the resort from Heavenly’s Stagecoach or Boulder Lodge a quicker route to Dipper Express, Comet Express and East Peak Lodge.

The Olympic Express will be 3,533 feet long with an 866-foot vertical rise. The high-speed lift will move 1,000 feet per minute with a 2,400-person capacity per hour. The former two-person Olympic chair ride took approximately 11 minutes, compared to just 3.5 minutes for the new Olympic Express.

Heavenly will also unveil three new trails off the Olympic Express. Cloud Nine is an intermediate level groomed trail that is perfect for wide-open cruising. Heavenly strategically thinned the trees on the other two trails to offer different levels of tree-skiing experiences. The Pines is a groomed, intermediate trail that allows skiers and riders to cruise around islands of beautiful western white pines. Bohemian Grove ratchets up the intensity one level. This advanced, gladed run is steeper, ungroomed and offers a more natural tree-skiing feel. For the expert, Nevada Woods is the all-natural, full-tilt tree skiing that made this area a local legend.

A fourth trail, Nova, is an intermediate trail that will run along the Dipper Express chair line to connect Orion to the base of Dipper Express. The four new trails bring Heavenly’s total to 95.

Also new this winter will be the Heavenly Sky Flyer at Adventure Peak. This elevated zip line cable ride will take guests on a 50-mileper- hour thrill ride from the top of Tamarack Express back to the top of the Gondola, a vertical drop of 525 feet. At 3,100 feet, the Heavenly Sky Flyer will be the longest zip line in the lower 48 U.S. states.

For those who prefer their thrill rides on the trails rather than above them, Heavenly has continued its commitment to offering Lake Tahoe’s finest corduroy. New this season are four lowemission Prinoth 350 groomers and a state-of-the-art PistenBully 600 ultra-low-emission snow groomer. This addition brings the total to 16, so Heavenly can maintain its claim to the largest fleet of Prinoth 350s in North America.

Heavenly has also purchased 11 more Snow Machines, Inc. fully automated fan guns. These fan guns will be placed on elevated towers in strategically selected locations to provide a more consistent, quality snow coverage.

Heavenly has also retrofitted many of its air/water snowmaking guns to be more energy efficient while also making larger quantities of snow in warmer temperatures. This combination of grooming expertise and snowmaking capacity ensure that Heavenly’s guests are always skiing or riding on the finest snow surface conditions that Lake Tahoe has to offer.

Off the mountain, Lake Tahoe Development Company broke ground on the Chateau at Heavenly Village. The 11.5-acre redevelopment will include two luxury condohotels, a 16,000-square-foot RockResorts Spa, 50,000- square-foot convention center with a 21,000-square-foot pre-function area, a 1.5-acre park and a collection of shops and restaurants.

The Chateau at Heavenly Village is located at the California state line across from Heavenly Village and the Heavenly Gondola. It is adjacent to Harvey’s Lake Tahoe Casino & Resort. The Chateau will be completed in winter 2009 and will be operated by Vail Resorts subsidiary, RockResorts.

Other future projects approved under Phase One of the Master Plan include: Replacement of another existing fixed-grip chair lift on the Nevada side with a high-speed detachable lift and a 1,000-seat on-mountain restaurant with incredible views of Lake Tahoe called Powderbowl Lodge. Also included are 152 acres of new ski trails; regrading Skyline Trail (the traverse from California to Nevada); and a skier bridge that will allow access from the Gondola top station to Tamarack Express.

The plan also calls for multi-use hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails in the area between the Gondola top station and the Observation Deck.

Every project contained in theMaster PlanAmendment was designed to minimize environmental impact and maximize water clarity from the watersheds draining Heavenly. The plan also contains the most comprehensive environmental mitigation and monitoring program in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

“With this Master Plan, Heavenly has become a leader among ski resorts in terms of environmental stewardship,” said Rochelle Nason, executive director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe. “The resort worked closely with conservationists to assure their plan will result in greater protection for Lake Tahoe’s water quality, and their decision to spare the North Bowl trees is tremendous. Heavenly is a terrific destination for everyone who wants to help ‘Keep Tahoe Blue’.”

The results of Heavenly’s past environmental programs are positive. Watershed condition and water quality in each of the watersheds draining Heavenly have improved through a systematic restoration and re-vegetation program. Since 2003, Heavenly has been attaining its Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) targets for suspended sediment in Heavenly Valley Creek. This is the first use of the TMDL in the Tahoe Basin, and is seen as the future for watershed management at Lake Tahoe.

KIRKWOOD CUP SERIES

The Kirkwood Cup is back again for the second season. It was a huge success last year, and it will be bigger and better this year. With positive responses from all the athletes who competed last season, Kirkwood has grown the series from three events to seven events. All events will be held on Sundays following the JET’s Games series. The participants accumulate points from event to event, and Kirkwood will crown the overall winners at the end of the season.

NORTH AMERICAN FREESKIING/RIDING CHAMPIONSHIP

For the last 11 years, Kirkwood Mountain Resort has been the host the North American Freeskiing/Riding Championships, and it will happen again this year. Kirkwood will host the Freeskiing Championships from March 31- April 4, 2008, at Devil’s Corral. It is the biggest event each year with the best venue for viewing it. Watch worldclass athletes as they attempt to tackle the infamous Cirque. Participants include Kirkwood Freeride Team athlete Craig Garbiel.

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES - KIRKWOOD CARPOOL BLOG

Kirkwood Carpool Blog helps people to conserve energy, save money on gas and help reduce the amount of traffic on the roads. The Green Tags dollars are used to help develop new wind power generation facilities in the U.S. Kirkwood has pledged to match the total Green Tag sales dollars for the ski season.

NATIONAL FOREST FOUNDATION

Kirkwood Lodging began working with the National Forest Foundation last season to help with the funding of projects within the Eldorado National Forest. They will continue to do so for the 2007-08 season. Every lodging rental unit includes an extra $1 fee to be given directly to the NFF. The NFF is the congressionally chartered nonprofit partner of the U.S. Forest Service.

NEW TIMBER CREEK FAMILY CENTER AT KIRKWOOD

Kirkwood’s new Timber Creek facility provides guests with one-stop shopping to find everything they need to get on the mountain fast and easy. Two tent structures provide over 10,000 square feet of space to service guests at Timber Creek. The largest tent structure is the headquarters of Kirkwood’s Ski and Ride School. It includes the Burton Learn-To-Ride Center and Rossignol Learn-To- Ski Center. This larger tent structure also houses Kirkwood’s largest rental center and has a ticket office. The other tent is home to Snowshoe Thompson’s restaurant and Kirkwood Mountain Sports retail outlet.

ICONIC LOCATION REVEALS NEW MARKETING STRATEGY

On any given year, more snow falls at Kirkwood than at any other resort in the country. Even during last year’s lack luster snowfall around Lake Tahoe, Kirkwood received nearly 400 inches of snow. The previous year Kirkwood received over 800 inches of snow. Somehow nature has Kirkwood’s address and delivers a lot of snow. The resort also has some of the most demanding expert terrain in the world. For the past 35 years, Kirkwood has been known as an anomaly, a geographical phenomenon with truly unbelievable snowfall and terrain suited for the most advanced skier to the beginner. For its 35th Anniversary, Kirkwood is launching “Rare Earth”, a new marketing campaign that marvels at being one of the rarest resorts on earth.

SUGAR BOWL IS MORE FUN - LESS HASSLE

NORDEN, CA — Sugar Bowl, the place where it all started 68 years ago, just keeps getting better with age. From the most convenient location and deepest snowfall to the incredible diversity of the terrain and longstanding commitment to excellent customer service, Sugar Bowl continues to offer more fun and fewer hassles. Add that Sugar Bowl is consistently ranked as having the friendliest staff in the Sierra and you will see why you need to be skiing and riding at “The Bowl” more this winter.

Sugar Bowl is the closest major resort to Sacramento and the BayArea on the western slope of the Sierra, which means convenient, easy access and less hassle. It is not just that you are on the mountain sooner; you are also ahead of the crowd on the way home. When people talk about traffic jams in and around the Sierra, they never mention the road to Sugar Bowl. Sugar Bowl is by far the most hassle free resort from which to get in and out.

Next on your list of reasons for making Sugar Bowl a must ski or ride resort this winter is the outrageous snowfall they receive every year. Sugar Bowl receives the most snowfall and maintains the deepest pack in the Sierra because of its location on the westernmost ridge of the Pacific Crest.Moisture-laden clouds from the Pacific Ocean unload on Donner Summit first before slowly moving toward Lake Tahoe and the basin. Sugar Bowl is the place for a perfect powder day.

With legendary steeps, hidden tree stashes, bump fields, terrain parks and miles of fresh corduroy, Sugar Bowl serves up a little something for everyone from beginners and families to serious shredders. Quality terrain is the reason Sugar Bowl was California’s first commercial ski resort. It is called “cherry picking” – taking the best nature has to offer. That’s exactly what Sugar Bowl’s founders did in 1939 when they chose 1,500 acres of the finest quality mountain terrain anywhere.

Sugar Bowl’s high-speed lift network means you’ll spend less time waiting in lines and more time finding them. In the last few years the resort has added 5 highspeed express quads on all four of the mountain peaks and has upgraded or added two fixed-grip quads as well. If you have not been to Sugar Bowl lately, you have a lot of catching up to do.

While Sugar Bowl has been busy upgrading and expanding the resort, the one thing that that has not changed is the resort’s commitment to great customer service. Sugar Bowl is still about its rich and storied past, plenty of fresh snow, warm sun and good friends, a commitment to genuinely friendly service, and a common love for gliding down a great mountain. Sugar Bowl still remains a local’s favorite with a family-friendly attitude.

This season experience more fun and less hassle at Sugar Bowl with several options, from daily charges to season passes. Sugar Bowl’s exclusive Core Rewards Program offers reduced-rate ticket options, less waiting in line, automatic credit card charging, and redeemable reward points for every dollar spent. Check the website for details about these great programs. Sugar Bowl is doubling efforts to give you “more fun and less hassle”, so head to Donner Summit and visit Sugar Bowl this season.

CAL NEVA LODGE & CASINO -
THE ORIGINAL NORTH SHORE HIDEAWAY

CRYSTAL BAY, NV — The Cal Neva Lodge and Casino, on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Crystal Cove, offers comfortable and competitively priced rooms and lots of fascinating history. Cal Neva Lodge was once a favorite hideaway of the Hollywood Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and others) and a cast of friends that included notorious Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana.

Originally built in 1926, The Cal Neva was purchased by Sinatra in 1960 partly because the hotel straddles the border of California and Nevada. He operated the hotel until 1963. He reportedly made frequent use of tunnels under the property to smuggle special guests under the state line to avoid Nevada gaming rules. These days on Fridays and Saturdays, the lodge treats guests to tours of the tunnels and cabins used by Marilyn Monroe and other wellknown personalities.

Close to all major Tahoe area ski resorts and other tourist destinations, the Cal Neva is both convenient and a fun place for everybody. The Lodge features 200 rooms, including one-room cabins and cozy chalets. Amenities include complementary shuttles to NorthStar, Squaw Valley, and Diamond Peak (subject to availability) and a free Après Ski drink (one free per guest with lift ticket). Guests can also imbibe a wide range of beverages in the famous Cal Neva Circle Bar, including $1 happy hour shots.

With more than 16,000 square feet of meeting space, the hotel caters to groups of up to 400 people. Cal Neva is one of the best places in the area to hold social events, like weddings and anniversaries, and business functions, or training seminars and planning meetings. The services available include audio-visual equipment, complementary wireless Internet access, free parking, a fitness room, an outdoor swimming pool, in-room cable/satellite TV and direct-dial telephones.

Cal Neva’s very popular Lakeview Dining Room gives diners a sweeping treetop vista of the entire lake. The American specialty kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Guests and locals frequent the full-service casino, which has been in operation since before gaming was legalized in 1931 and still features penny slots and Texas Hold’em poker games in the same room where bootleggers, bank robbers, and hoods once congregated. Please visit the Cal Neva website at www.CalNevaLakeTahoe.com for info about generous Play and Stay packages, casino specials, and dining deals.

Described as a stunning combination of hip and organic, The Cedar House incorporates a number of ecofriendly elements, bringing a fresh and environmentally- conscience style to the Sierra.

Exposed structural elements, a feature common in industrial architecture, combine with massive cedar logs, rusting corrugated steel, cedar siding and concrete floors. TAHOE CITY, CA – Granlibakken Lodge is in the business of creating memories. This winter skiers and snowboarders visiting Granlibakken can ski at seven world-class ski resorts, because the lodging property just added Mt. Rose to its $109 Ski and Stay Package. You get basically the same rate as last year, but with one more skiing option. The package includes lodging and hot buffet breakfast and is $109 per person per day midweek (double occupancy) and $122 per person on weekends.

“Granlibakken Lodge has always been a popular resort for families and singles alike,” said Kay Williams, marketing and sales director of Granlibakken Lodge. “Every winter, many of the same guests return to enjoy our Old Tahoe atmosphere. It is safe here. Extended families and single parents can relax while their children make new friends, build snowmen or enjoy a selection of board games in our cozy lodge.”

The Ski and Stay Package includes one adult lift ticket to Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley USA, Mt. Rose, Homewood Mountain Resort or Sierra-at-Tahoe; one night’s lodging at Granlibakken; full breakfast buffet; and use of sauna, heated outdoor pool and hot tub. Ski shuttles stop off and pick up right out Granlibakken’s front door. For guests choosing Homewood Mountain Resort, the same package price and amenities apply in addition to free morning and afternoon ski lessons at Homewood, as well as free Homewood equipment rentals. The Ski and Stay Package is not valid during holidays and reservations are required.

Sometimes young skiers do not last all day on the slopes. That is why Granlibakken’s onsite beginner ski hill and rentals, nearby warming hut and snow play area are so popular. After a hot chocolate and cookie, most beginners are back on the slopes, but some choose to take in a saucer ride to enjoy the machine-groomed powder. In fact, Granlibakken’s history dates back to 1922 when guests from nearby Tahoe Tavern came to sleigh and toboggan at Granlibakken. The resort also boasts ties with the Olympics. In 1930 the Lake Tahoe Ski Club built one of the country’s best ski jumps where the resort now stands and hosted the Junior Olympic Ski Jumping trials.

Granlibakken is not limited to downhill skiing and snowboarding. Many families take advantage of the resort’s miles of ungroomed terrain through dense forests to cross-country ski and snowshoe. Rentals are also available onsite.

With Granlibakken Lodge’s variety of lodging options, from standard lodge rooms to studios, suites and townhomes, there is something for everyone. Many units also have fireplaces, private decks and kitchens, perfect for families on the go. There is free wireless access.

For guests flying in for their winter vacation, Granlibakken provides airport shuttle service, by reservation only, from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Granlibakken also specializes in conferences and meetings for groups of four to 400 with 16 meeting rooms and more than 14,000 square feet. A special Meet and Ski Free Package is available for $177 per person.

This winter Granlibakken opened the doors to its new Cedar House Pub, offering guests a comfortable and cozy setting to unwind from a day on the slopes. The pub will be open for dinner on weekends and holidays throughout the ski season.

Granlibakken Lodge and Conference Center, nestled in a picturesque 74-acre valley, is conveniently located just outside Tahoe City, Calif., on the west shore of Lake Tahoe.

TAHOE'S NORTH SHORE RAMPS UP for WINTER with SKI RESORT UPGRADES and DEALS

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV – Similar to the renaissance taking place at North Lake Tahoe properties and facilities, the areas are pulling out all the stops to attract visitors to the largest concentration of ski resorts in the country. Offerings include resort upgrades, new programs and special events.

“There is nothing like the North Lake Tahoe ski product,” said Tourism Director Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. “With our 300 days of sunshine each year, 400 inches of snowfall and thousands of skiable acres, travelers will find some of the best skiing in the U.S. throughout the entire ski season.”

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort

San Francisco-based JMA Ventures recently finalized its purchase of Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. The company specializes in the development and refurbishment of historical landmark properties, concentrating on revitalizing an area while retaining its original and intended character. Jim Kercher has been named the new general manager of the popular ski area. Additional JMA projects include Homewood Mountain Resort and the Hotel Avery in Truckee.

Diamond Peak

Skiers and riders purchasing three lesson packages at Diamond Peak will receive three free lift tickets upon completion of lessons. Packages include group lesson, equipment rental and lift ticket. The aim of the new program is to attract new skiers and riders to the slopes, though the program is applicable to all levels of lessons.

Homewood Mountain Resort

Homewood Mountain Resort improves for the 2007-08 season with a new high-speed, detachable quad, providing quick access to North Side runs. JMA Ventures has more big plans for its new mountain, including a quaint pedestrian village, a mid-mountain lodge, a gondola and underground parking. The village, to be located at the north base, plans to house an ice cream shop, hardware store, market, 50-room hotel, spa and 40-condo complex. An ice rink, swimming pool and amphitheater are also scheduled. The company, which purchased the hidden gem in 2006, aims to keep the unique character of the resort and adhere to strict green and environmental practices throughout the planning and operational stages.

Northstar-at-Tahoe

Northstar-at-Tahoe added four new trails to its Northwest Territory, bringing the trail total to 83 and the skiable acreage to 2,490. The resort also widened select trails off Mount Pluto. An expanded snowmaking system will be generating more snow throughout the mountain, allowing for more terrain that is accessible earlier in the season. Plans to expand the slopes at Lookout Mountain are also in the works, with a lift extension (detachable quad), additional trails and base facility scheduled. Northstar also recently unveiled an additional 5,000 square feet of meeting space. The latest retailers making their home in the Village include Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar, Oliver Napa Valley, Tahoe Creamery, and Spirits in Stone.

Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe

Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe opens the season with improvements to the Slide Bowl on the east side of the resort. Snowmaking and selective re-contouring will continue down Silver Dollar Trail with the primary goal of achieving early-season access to Slide Lodge.

Squaw Valley USA

This winter at Squaw, the Shirley Lift Express, an upgraded detachable six-person lift, will access 375 acres of intermediate terrain at Shirley Lake. The terrain parks will also see a number of improvements, including a new trenched superpipe in Central Park at Riviera. Equipped with lights, the new Riviera Superpipe will be the only night accessed superpipe in the region. The addition of snowmaking in the Riviera terrain park, along with the trenching of the pipe, gives Squaw Valley skiers a superpipe starting at the beginning of the season. The new Squallywood Clinic allows advanced skiers the opportunity to learn and experience the technical top-secret lines from Squallywood author Bob Gaffney. New guided backcountry tours will open previously restricted borders to uncharted terrain. Full moon snowshoe tours will debut to take trekkers to upper mountain peaks.

Learn to Ski or Board Weekend

The North Lake Tahoe ski resorts are giving novice skiers the opportunity to learn at bargain prices. The 8th Annual Learn to Ski and Board Weekend is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 8-9. The cost is $25 and it includes an all-day beginner lift ticket, group lesson and gear rental. First-timers have their choice of resorts, including Alpine Meadows, Boreal Mountain Resort, Diamond Peak, Granlibakken, Homewood Mountain Resort, Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, Northstar-at- Tahoe, Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl.

Caliente

After a day on the mountain, snow enthusiasts can enjoy a new restaurant, another sign that the Sierra Nevada culinary scene is continuing to evolve to delectable heights. The long-awaited Caliente, an upscale Southwest restaurant brought to Kings Beach by the creators of Gar Woods, opened its doors in late August. The eatery and watering hole makes its home in a beautifully renovated building with a rooftop deck, complete with palapas and views of Lake Tahoe.

It has never been easier to reach North Lake Tahoe. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport has more than 170 daily flights to and from nearly 20 non-stop destinations. The new North Lake Tahoe Express daily airport shuttle began operations last year. This November, the airport will add a new direct flight to Reno from Baltimore/Washington D.C. through Chicago. This will join the recent additions of non-stop flights from San Diego, Bellingham, Washington and Chicago Midway. North Lake Tahoe is a 45- minute drive from the Reno Tahoe International Airport, two hours from Sacramento International Airport and just over three hours from San Francisco International Airport.

Once in North Lake Tahoe, you can find that visitor information centers are located at 380 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City and 969 Tahoe Boulevard in Incline Village. The North Lake Tahoe Visitors Bureaus, Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, work together to promote North Lake Tahoe as a premier, year-round destination.

On and Off-Mountain Projects and Events Enhance Popular Destinations for the 2007-08 Winter Season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV – South Shore Lake Tahoe is ready for winter with new high-speed quad lifts, more than 300 acres of backcountry terrain and the longest zip line in the country at 3,100 feet. You will also find new on-mountain dining, a variety of headliner entertainment and festivals. Ski resorts welcome winter enthusiasts to South Shore Lake Tahoe with 300 sunny days a year, over 10,000 skiable acres and the deepest snowfall in the country.

“Tahoe has the most consistent snowfall in the nation. Just about every other week you’ll get two to 10 foot dumps,” said Abe Teter, professional snowboarder. (Future Snowboarding Magazine, Winter 2006)

Teter’s not the only big fan of Lake Tahoe. Good Morning America’s Ron Claiborne, who visited South Shore Lake Tahoe last February to ski and enjoy winter activities said, “There’s nothing like it. Tahoe is a special place with the lake and the mountains. It’s my favorite spot in the world.”

Also new is the Heavenly Sky Flyer, the longest zip line in the lower 48 states at 3,100 feet. Guests will take on a 50-mile-an-hour thrill ride from the top of Tamarack Express back to the top of the Gondola, encountering a vertical drop of 525 feet.

With continued efforts to offer the best snow in the nation, Heavenly purchased 11 new snow making machines, which will be placed on elevated towers in selected locations to provide more consistent snow coverage.
