SOUTH LAKE TAHOE RESORTS & LODGING

HEAVENLY ADDS TO EAST PEAK LODGE & IMPROVES

THE SKYLINE TRAIL TO CONTINUE MASSIVE UPGRADES

Skyline Trail now has consistent pitch from California to Nevada trails as ZipRider continues to thrill guests

STATELINE, NV—Three new trails, lodge renovations, RF ticket technology and a major trail re-grade headline the resort improvements for Heavenly Mountain Resort (www.skiheavenly.com) for the 2008-09 season. Under Heavenly’s 10-year master plan, approved in April 2007, guests can look forward to new lifts, on-mountain restaurants, lodging and base villages that will greatly improve the overall experience at Lake Tahoe’s leading destination resort.

“The debut of Olympic Express and the Heavenly Flyer ZipRider last season set Heavenly apart as the next great destination resort,” said Blaise Carrig, Heavenly’s chief operating officer. “This winter guests can expect more improvements including new, gladed trails in Ski Ways and the re-grading of Skyline Trail.”

Three new trails are found in California this season, two in SkiWays glades and another in PowderbowlWoods. They continue the trend that began in the Olympic Express area last season.

Heavenly gladed the trails, leaving tree islands with enough space to groom the run with a snow cat. Heavenly also re-graded the famous Skyline Trail, which is the main connection between all the trails in California and Nevada. The re-grade allows all levels of skiers easier access to Nevada terrain when coming from the California side.

On the Nevada side, East Peak Lodge has undergone a renovation that provides 90 to 100 more indoor seats. East Peak Lodge is the most popular on-mountain eatery and the additional seats will make a huge difference on the few days that the California sun does not shine.

Heavenly will continue the Appetite for Life food initiative this season offering Coleman hormone-free beef and poultry, as well as Horizon dairy products at all on-mountain eateries. In addition to healthy menu items, all on-mountain eateries are frying with trans-fat free oils.

The Ski and Ride Schools of Heavenly have introduced a variety of new lesson options for the 2008-09 winter season. Two-day South Shore Soldier Camps, based on the legendary spring snowboard and freeskiing instructional camp, are offered monthly throughout the winter. They focus on progressive park riding and safety. Gunbarrel 25 Mogul Camps are offered to improve mogul skiing and style and to prepare competitors for this year’s Gunbarrel 25 event to be held on April 5, 2009. Also, the Women’s Adventure Clinics are revamped to attract women who are interested in top-level ski and snowboard instruction in the company of other women. The ski school debuts a new magic carpet in the California learning area making learning to ski and snowboard easier.

Look for an upgrade at the California Lodge including the expansion and remodel of the California rental shop. The new shop will be larger, creating smoother flow and faster renting, so more time is spent on the slopes. Also new this year is an unlimited ski and snowboard rental program through Rentskis.com and Specialty Sports Venture – offering convenience, value and variety. This program is designed to reward frequent renters and diminishes the necessity of bringing gear to the resort; especially for those traveling on planes with hefty baggage costs. For $359 skiers and riders can purchase an unlimited number of days of Sport or Performance rental equipment for the 2008-09 season.

The Heavenly season passes have a high-tech upgrade this season with the addition of Radio Frequency (RF) technology. A small computer chip called an RF “tag” will be embedded into all resort passes, sending a radio signal to new handheld scanners. Guests will still interact with lift employees who will verify pass photos and information. The “easy scan” pass will not have to be presented to the scanner since it is detectable through many layers of clothing.

Heavenly has continued its commitment to offering Lake Tahoe’s finest corduroy with five new low-emission Prinoth 350 groomers and one new low-emission Prinoth Bison winch cat. Heavenly maintains the largest fleet of Prinoth 350s in North America numbering 15.

Heavenly has also purchased 11 Snow Machines, Inc. fully-automated fan guns. These are placed on elevated towers in strategically-selected locations to provide a more consistent, quality of snow coverage.

Additionally, Heavenly retrofitted many of its air/water snowmaking guns to be more energy efficient while also making larger quantities of snow in warmer temperatures. The combination of grooming expertise and snowmaking capacity ensure that Heavenly’s guests are always skiing or riding on the finest snow surface conditions Lake Tahoe has to offer.

Other projects on the horizon include the replacement of an existing fixed-grip chairlift on the Nevada side with a high-speed, detachable lift. They will also build a 1,000-seat on-mountain restaurant, named Powderbowl Lodge, which will have incredible views of Lake Tahoe.

For more information on Heavenly, please visit www.skiheavenly.com or call 1-800-HEAVENLY (1-800-432-8365).

WHAT'S NEW at SOUTH TAHOE'S SIERRA-AT-TAHOE RESORT

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA — Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort geared up for what the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting will be an above average snow year. With an annual average of 480 inches of snow, an above average year means plenty of powder days to come. Here is some of what is new at Sierra™ Resort this winter.

INTERACTIVE RADAR

Three new features on the Sierra-at- Tahoe Resort website offer guests a cutting- edge online experience and again raise the bar for web technology in the ski industry. An interactive radar application will allow guests to see weather patterns over precise locations at Sierra Resort, differentiating between summit and base for example, and will enable eager skiers to follow storms in real time as the storms approach the crest of the Sierra Nevada.

MOBILE WEB

SierraAtTahoe.com will also debut a mobile website catering to the growing niche of iPhone and other smartphone users. Features of the mobile website will include a touch-screen design with live feeds reporting daily conditions, weather, news, events and more.

SKI THIS SEASON AT LAST YEAR’S PRICE IF PURCHASED BY DEC. 15

The Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort 3-Pak is one of the best deals in the ski world. You can use it any day of the season, including holidays. You do not have to use it three days in a row. When you compare the price to a daily ticket, the third day is essentially free. If you purchase a 3-Pak before December 15, 2008, you can ski or ride at last year’s price – just $45 per day!

BEAT THE COST OF SKIING & BOARDING

Sierra Resort offers plenty of other ways for families to beat the cost of skiing and snowboarding.

Double Whammy season passes are an affordable way to get on the slopes of both Sierra and Northstar Resorts all winter long. Most season pass options pay for themselves after just six visits. Shuttles from South Lake Tahoe eliminate the cost of gas to and from Sierra Resort. Online specials like Learn-To-Ski/Ride week in early January give friends an affordable opportunity to spend time together in the mountains.

FACILITIES FOR PRIVATE GROUPS

The 360° Smokehouse BBQ, inside the Grandview Lodge, will host small, private groups this season after 3:00 p.m. The Smokehouse BBQ also boasts incredible views of Lake Tahoe and a large, southernstyle dining room, perfect for groups of 30 to 40 people. After filling up on pulled pork, brisket, tri-tip and fried green beans (just a few of the tasty items on the menu), guests will be able to enjoy the last run of the day down the mountain.

GREEN MEMBERSHIP

Environmentally conscious guests can join Project: Green Sierra to become Part of the Solution. By signing a pledge, season pass holders promise to take tangible steps toward reducing their personal impact on the environment. If 1,000 pass holders sign the Project: Green Sierra pledge, Sierra Resort will donate $1,000 to the Sacramento Tree Foundation in support of its goal to plant five million new trees in the region by 2025.

CARPOOLING

Building on the progress of last season’s initiatives, like the Green Lot, where hybrid vehicles can park up front in Preferred Parking free, Sierra further reduces green house gas emissions at the resort by encouraging the resort’s “no-idling” policy. Sierra Resort will also offer guests carpooling resources at SierraAtTahoe.com to help guests connect to share rides to the mountain.

FAMILY PRIVATE LESSON

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort’s Ski and Snowboard School continues to cater to families who go on vacation to spend time together. The Family Private Lesson offers a personalized experienced with an instructor who is specially trained to teach multiple ability levels in the same lesson. No longer do Mom and Dad say goodbye to their children in the morning and not see them again until dinner. NORTHSTAR-at-TAHOE INVESTS $13 million in ADVANCED TERRAIN, SNOWMAKING, GLADES and MORE

TRUCKEE, CA — Continuing to enhance the skiing and riding experience for winter sport enthusiasts, Northstar® Resort invested more than $13 million in on-mountain improvements that benefit skiers for the 2008-09 winter season. Improvements include the extension of ski trails and the express quad lift on Lookout Mountain®, one of the areas of the resort offering advanced ski terrain. There are new snowmaking systems, tree thinning to make for improved glade skiing, increased lift capacity, and the widening of the ski area boundaries, increasing the resort’s total skiable acreage by 414 acres to a total of 2,904 acres.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer our guests more terrain, improved snowmaking, increased lift capacity and more this season,” said Tim Silva, general manager, Northstarat- Tahoe Resort. “Lookout Mountain in particular has always offered phenomenal skiing, and with the extension of the lift and ski trails in that area of the resort, the ski experience will be significantly enhanced for all who choose to ski that terrain.”

The new Martis Camp Express lift (formerly Lookout Express) will be a high-speed quad lift located inside the Martis Camp development at the base of Northstar Resort’s Lookout Mountain. The lift line will be increased from 2,822 lineal feet to 5,128 lineal feet, with an increase in vertical drop from 1,247 feet to 1,722 feet, and will allow skiers and riders to reach the top of the mountain in a mere six minutes. This unique amenity will allow Martis Camp property owners to have direct access from their homes to Northstar.

Three existing advanced ski trails on Lookout Mountain are extended into Martis Camp: Prosser, Stampede and Martis, with snowmaking extended on Prosser and Martis. To the east of these trails, a new intermediate trail named Washoe was added. Washoe continues to the base of the Martis Camp Express lift and features top-tobottom snowmaking.

The resort also invested in additional snowmaking upgrades for other areas of the resort by purchasing 16 new high-efficiency fan guns, 100 new low-energy stick snowmaking guns, and has retrofitted older snowmaking equipment, making it 24 percent more efficient by reducing the amount of resources needed to make snow.

Northstar Resort performed tree-thinning work on Lookout Mountain, The Backside, Mount Pluto and in the Northwest Territory, providing for an enhanced glade skiing experience. Trees logged from these areas were reused. Logs that were big enough to make lumber were sent to a mill. Smaller trees and slash were also reused, with 70 percent chipped and then used for erosion control. The remaining 30 percent were sent to a cogeneration plant in nearby Loyalton, CA.

The thinning work allowed for five new gladed tree skiing trails: The Camp Glade, Sugar Pine Glade, Monument Glade, Comstock Glade and Rendezvous Glade. All are rated black diamond and add to Northstar Resort’s incredible tree skiing reputation. These additions bring Northstar Resort’s total trail count to 89.

Additionally, Northstar Resort increased the lift capacity of the Tahoe Zephyr Express by 16 percent with the addition of 10 new six-passenger chairs.

Take advantage of Northstar’s “Stay & Ski Free” package, where you can stay for as little as $108 per person and get a free lift ticket. Restrictions apply, so please call 1-866-859-0715 for more info.

Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is located off Highway 267, six miles from the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Take the quick route and use the I-80 / Highway 267 Truckee bypass.

Log on to Northstar’s web site, NorthstarAtTahoe.com, to learn more about many more programs too numerous to mention, or call 1-800-466-6784 or 1-800- GO-NORTH.

SUGAR BOWL, THE "GRANDE DAME" of TAHOE SKIING

NORDEN, CA — Sugar Bowl was founded in 1939, which means they had the jump on everyone else for finding the best location in Tahoe to build a ski resort. Receiving 500 inches of snow annually, it is no wonder why this incredible location, perched high atop Donner Summit, was chosen by the founders. Home to the first gondola in NorthAmerica and the first chairlift in California, Sugar Bowl enjoys a rich history and a storied past.

While the Sugar Bowl of today certainly boasts all the modern amenities of a 21st century destination resort, you will no doubt feel that the past is present as you enter Tahoe’s only snowbound village via the gondola connection. The resort is complete with quaint ski chalets and the venerable Lodge at Sugar Bowl.

This unique experience should not be overlooked. While nearby Truckee offers excellent accommodation options, a stay at the historic Lodge at Sugar Bowl delivers an overnight experience not often enjoyed at other resorts. You will stay in a comfortable room in a slopeside hotel in Tahoe’s only snowbound village, accessed only by gondola or snowcat ride. If the historic Lodge is not your style, check out some of Sugar Bowl’s new and modern condominiums at the Jerome Creek Lodge, or even rent a single-family home for that special family vacation.

While we all enjoy comfortable digs and off-mountain activities, let us be honest. It is the skiing and riding that truly matters, and Sugar Bowl delivers once again. Fast forward 69 years from Sugar Bowl’s beginning to the 2008-09 ski season, and you will find 1,500 acres with 1,500 vertical feet of skiable terrain that truly skis far bigger than the stats might suggest. Five high-speed quads mean more time finding lines on the mountain than standing in them at the bottom, and a progressive terrain park complete with half pipe keeps the park rats smiling. With the 500 inches of annual snow, Sugar Bowl also boasts snowmaking on nearly one third of the mountain, and coupled with the same amount of grooming, means that you are almost guaranteed quality skiing on the hill.

Sugar Bowl offers numerous season pass options that accommodate nearly every skier’s schedule, and there is a unique day pass that offers direct-to-lift convenience, with a simple back-end credit card tied to the pass itself. With any day or season pass purchase, you are offered a free membership in Sugar Bowl’s progressive loyalty and rewards program, known as CORE Rewards, where you can amass points for just skiing and riding, which can then be redeemed for lessons, food, drink, retail and more.

Sugar Bowl skis incredibly well. Most skiers start their day at the convenient slopeside parking on the Mt. Judah side of the hill, making it easy to begin with a groomer on Jerome Hill Express or a few laps through the newlyexpanded terrain park and halfpipe under the Mt Judah lift. From Jerome Hill, skiers can head over for the more mellow Christmas Tree Express or head straight up to the top of Mt. Lincoln, where majestic views and challenging terrain are plentiful, including the right-of-passage Palisades, open only when conditions permit.

Continuing to the skiers’ right side, guests can work their way to the Disney Express lift for excellent skiing off either side of the spine, and then even further out to Crows Nest and the hike-to terrain of Strawberry Fields and Crow’s Face. Head back the way you came but this time ski it a little better than the first time, and you have the makings of a classic Sugar Bowl ski day.

In a day and age where marketing taglines and catchy hooks reign supreme, Sugar Bowl delivers a straight-tothe- point message to its loyal customers and new-found guests, “More Fun. Less Hassle.” It truly is about the good times while at the resort. With upgrades and improvements including new slopeside parking on the Mt Judah side of the hill, a state-of the-art day lodge in the Judah Lodge, a convenientMountain Sports Learning Center for lessons and rentals, you really do get the hassle-free experience at Sugar Bowl.

Sugar Bowl prides itself with incredible attention to the guest experience and overall delivery of customer service. It starts with a team of employees that love where they work. It shines through in their attitude and delivery. You will be impressed with the service when you call, and even more impressed once you get to Sugar Bowl.

Since Sugar Bowl is the closest resort to the Bay Area and Sacramento, clocking in at a quarter-tank closer than other Tahoe resorts, it is more convenient to exit I-80 and start your ski day earlier, rather than driving on and fighting more traffic. With hundreds of convenient parking spots, preferred parking and ski valet drop-off services, getting in and out of your car and on to the slopes has never been easier or faster.

Find out for yourself and start planning your vacation. To book tickets, lodging, or even just to find out how the conditions are, get in contact with Sugar Bowl via an easily found link in the Tahoe section on the homepage of www.skiernews.com.

Or, for more information, you can visit their website directly at www.sugarbowl.com

CLASSIC TAHOE LUXURY

Entirely redesigned to reflect the essence of classic Tahoe luxury in the magnificent 1920s grand lodge design style, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe’s “New Grand Lodge” incorporates rough-hewn beams, rich leathers, and massive granite features throughout. Each of the resort’s 422 guestrooms offers sweeping lake or mountain views along with a cozy ambiance and state-of-the-art amenities. The Lakeside Cottages – located right on the shores of the Lake – are by far the most coveted. Strategically located throughout the hotel are photos from the early days of Tahoe. They provide a nostalgic look at the trailblazers who were the first to work and play in the area.

INDULGENT SPA

The resort is also home to one of the region’s largest and most indulgent spas. The 20,000-square-foot Stillwater Spa offers everything from sports massages to acid peels in addition to salon services. Guests hurting from the first runs of the season will appreciate Stillwater Spa’s new winter treatments: “Back” Country Escape treats sore muscles with a warm Lake Tahoe Stone massage and High Sierra aromatherapy, while the Deep Powder Renewal offers an herbal relief wrap with juniper, thyme, and cinnamon followed by a full body sports massage. The bar’s innovative cocktails are even more delicious when paired with vocals and acoustic guitar music performed by long-time Hyatt favorite Luke Stevenson. For a unique treat, enjoy your handcrafted martini beside the blazing fire of Lone Eagle’s outdoor fire pits, right next to the resort’s private beach.

HIGH SIERRA CUISINE AT LONE EAGLE GRILLE

For an exceptional dining experience that truly exemplifies the spirit and flavor of the region, epicureans will love Lone Eagle Grille Chef de Cuisine Mark May’s newly defined High Sierra Cuisine. This winter, High Sierra Cuisine means sophisticated yet approachable comfort foods. Sensational seafood, flown in daily, makes headlines along with plump wild Yellowfoot Chanterelles mushrooms, briny northwestern oysters, and richly flavored game meats. Indulge in Butter-Poached Sea Bass, Braised Leeks, Pesto Polenta, and Tomato Caper Salsa or Rack of Colorado Lamb with Ratatouille, Chickpea Fries and Tomato Garlic Lamb Jus.

CAMP HYATT

A fun and educational experience with the experienced staff of Camp Hyatt, little ones are entertained with games, movies, mountain-themed activities, and maybe an occasional trip to the in-house game arcade while parents have a bit of time to enjoy themselves, as well.

COZY CASINO

As if that is not enough, the resort offers top-notch gaming at the Grand Lodge Casino. Very different from the glitz of South Shore’s casinos, Hyatt’s full-gaming casino, temptingly located just off the lobby, is a decidedly classy alternative, echoing the gracious lodge-themed style of the rest of the resort.

WHAT'S NEW in NORTH LAKE TAHOE for WINTER 2008-09

INCLINE VILLAGE, NV – The north shore of Lake Tahoe has many exciting opportunities for guests from an assortment of great lodging to outstanding ski resorts. The casino nightlife adds another dimension for which Lake Tahoe is famous. Here is a brief summary of “What’s New” and “What’s Available” for visitors to Tahoe’s North Shore this winter.

ALPINE MEADOWS BOLSTERS SKI/SNOWBOARD SCHOOL

Alpine Meadow’s ski and snowboard school will offer a variety of new lessons and programs this winter, including the Burton Learn-to-Ride (LTR) Center, which introduces newcomers to snowboarding on beginner-specific equipment. The Burton LTR program also teaches guests about snowboarding safety, fun lingo and terminology and gives tips on how to progress. Alpine will also expand its popular kids’ program from two to four divisions, helping kids learn faster and giving parents more choices. The divisions will now include the Munchkins Camp for 3- and 4-year-olds while 5- and 6-year-olds can head to either the Grommet Camp for snowboarding or the Ripper Camp for skiing. The Mountaineer Camp will offer coaching for skiers and riders ages 7 through 12. An additional surface lift has also been added to the beginner learning area. The new Sun Kid Surface Lift will offer convenience, a faster learning curve and more time for sliding down the slopes.

DIAMOND PEAK BASE LODGE EXPANDS AND UPGRADES

The base lodge at Diamond Peak recently completed the first part of a two-phase upgrade. The $4-million renovation increased the floor space by 30,000 feet, or approximately 30 percent. Additions included new restrooms in the Loft Bar area, 300-square-foot banquet room for special events, an outside deck, expanded rental and repair shop, raised loft ceilings with skylights and heated paving stones on the upper deck.

NORTHSTAR INCREASES ACCESS ADVANCE TERRAIN

The new Martis Camp Express Lift (formerly Lookout Express) was installed this past summer. It will enable access to more advanced terrain in the Lookout Mountain Area of Northstar. The high-speed quad is located inside the Martis Camp development at the base of Lookout Mountain and allows guests to reach the top of the mountain in six minutes. The new lift will allow Martis Camp property owners direct access from their homes to Northstar Resort while creating new terrain for all Northstar skiers and riders.

A new intermediate trail named Washoe, terminating at the base of the new lift and featuring top-to-bottom snowmaking, has also been added. The Prosser, Stampede and Martis Trails were also extended into Martis Camp, with extended snowmaking added to Prosser and Martis. The upgrades were part of more than $13 million in renovations to the resort.

Guests to Northstar will also find more dining options. Baxter’s Bistro and Lounge, set to open this December, will be operated by JJ Morgan and Mark Estee, the pair behind Truckee’s popular Moody’s Bistro and Lounge. Baxter’s will feature a lively, entertaining atmosphere paired with first-rate cuisine and live music from some of the country’s top jazz acts. The Village will also welcome the Chocolate bar, serving appetizers, desserts, wine, spirits and signature Chocolate Bar cocktails while the new Euro Gelato will offer gelato, ice cream, specialty chocolates, desserts and beverages.

SQUAW VALLEY GETS SMART CARD LIFT TICKETS

Squaw is implementing one of the most technologically advanced ticketing systems in the world. The AX500 Smart Gates & Smart Card allows guests to access lifts more efficiently and quickly by automatically scanning tickets and passes located in pockets as they pass sensors approaching the lifts. Guests of all abilities can experience out of bounds excitement with Squaw’s new customized backcountry tours. Certified backcountry guides will lead groups out of bounds on private runs that are normally closed to the public. The world’s top international freeskiers and riders will be granted the rare opportunity to conquer the steep and seemingly unskiable rock face below Squaw Valley’s Tower One (known as “Tram Face”) at the Nissan Tram Face event February 27 - March 5. The face’s previously permanent closure makes it one of the most coveted lines to extreme freeriders.

TAHOE MARITIME MUSEUM NOW OPEN YEAR ROUND

The Tahoe Maritime Museum will keep its doors open for the first time this winter, as the popular West Shore attraction begins year round hours this fall. The museum, which recently underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation and expansion, features information about local history, an exquisite collection of wooden boats, a film “Tahoe Memories,” historic photos and an activities area for kids. Winter hours are Fridays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning in October. The museum will return to a six-day schedule in May.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE GEARS UP FOR ANOTHER EPIC SEASON

New Ski Lifts, Terrain, Interactive Technology, and Headliner Entertainment Highlight Winter 2008-09

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV — With its major casinos, South Lake Tahoe is considered a gambling town, but lots of snow could make another big winter look like a good bet. In January 2008, Mother Nature delivered record snowfall of 19 feet to South Lake Tahoe, and for 2008-09, The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts above average snowfall. Locals conducted “Pray for Snow Parties” to coincide with such predictions and with a little luck, it will all have happened.

In fact, winter enthusiasts believe that if there is still snow on the cross of Mt. Tallac, one of Tahoe’s tallest peaks, on Fourth of July, it will be a good season. There was.

South Lake Tahoe is recognized as a premier winter vacation destination with the most snow in the U.S, average high temperatures 35-40 degrees and more than 300 days of sunshine a year, which means abundant sun in the winter.

“One of the spellbinding aspects about our destination is winter storms hit hard and then the following days will be magnificent blue bird powder days with several feet of new snow,” said Carol Chaplin executive director of Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “Also, snow removal agencies do a great job of clearing the roads. You can also let the experts drive via public transportation and free shuttle services, which allows our destination to rarely be hindered by new snowfall.”

DINING AROUND SOUTH TAHOE

Edgewood Tahoe Restaurant provides lake views with snow covering the beach and golf course. Prix Fixe Menus with wine pairings for each course are available for $55, or $40 without wine. Choose from Seared Halibut topped with lobster and prawns; Veal Medallions with crab, brie, and piquant demy-glaze; and Muscovy Duck Breast with onions, mushrooms and Swiss chard ragout for the main entree. For more info please visit: www.edgewoodtahoe.com

Beach Hut Deli, is a grassroots deli, which originated in Folsom, Calif. It is popular in the Sacramento and Reno areas and now comes to South Shore. Even though you can’t surf in winter at Tahoe, the Surfin’ Bird™, Beach Bikini™, Pipeline Pup™ and the Shark Bite™ are a few of the sandwich creations. For info log on to www.beachhutdeli.com.

Wasabi is the newest addition to the variety of seafood/sushi options available, please call (530)-542-4451.

La Baguette Tahoe Artisan Bakery provides a selection of breakfast, lunch and café selections and breads baked fresh daily. The ham and cheese filled croissants and fresh fruit crepes are among locals’ favorites. For info log on to: www.tahoebaguette.com/goodthings

The Ski Run Center enhances the destination’s ongoing regeneration with architecture that coincides with the redevelopment. The final expansion is scheduled to open this winter and includes locations for a breakfast favorite Red Hut Restaurant, plus Altitude Salon and SPA, Alpaca Products, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Goodfellas Pizza.

WHAT’S NEW ON THE SLOPES

Heavenly Mountain Resort

Heavenly was recently named a “World Saver” by Condé Nast Traveler in the category environmental protection and is ranked in OnTheSnow.com’s top ten “no-car needed” resorts.

The developments continue in year two of Heavenly’s tenyear master plan. Following the debut of Olympic Express and the Heavenly Flyer ZipRider last season, Heavenly will unveil three new gladed trails on the California side that will include “islands” of groomed runs, giving skiers and riders the sensation of tree skiing without venturing off piste. Heavenly also re-graded Skyline Trail, the connecter that enables the return from the California side to the Nevada side. It is flat no more and now provides a steady downhill access to the Nevada terrain from the California side of the mountain.

Heavenly will double its indoor seating at East Peak Lodge, offer 100 percent Certified Organic Starbucks coffee and Fair-Trade espresso, and eliminate all artificial trans fats in its dining establishments. They expanded and remodeled the California Lodge’s rental shop and installed a magic carpet surface lift at the California ski school. They also added six new, low-emission grooming machines to the country’s largest fleet of Prinoth350 snow cats and expanded snowmaking to cover Nevada’s Stagecoach run. On the high-tech side, Heavenly season passes will include “easy scan” RF technology to expedite access to the lifts.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort

Kirkwood Mountain Resort added two new lifts for the 2008-09 season to improve access to 700 acres and over 1,350 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding in its legendary backside terrain. This is the first phase of its recently approved Mountain Master Development Plan.

The Lookout Vista lift replaces the hike to the famed chutes of Thunder Saddle along with access to the snowfields and cliffbands of Sunnyside. The Covered Wagon lift gains entry to the highest point crossed on the historic Mormon Emigrant Trail along with pristine powder stashes on Fawn Ridge.

The resort installed a beginner-friendly Wonder Carpet Lift at its Timber Creek Base Area replacing existing tows and lifts. Kirkwood revamped its three terrain park layouts for progression and flow. The resort invested in snowcat machinery specifically designed for terrain park applications. In addition to its terrain parks and half-pipe, Kirkwood is opening a Skier/Boarder X Course under Chair 5.

Complementing the progress of last season’s green initiatives with free preferred parking for hybrid vehicles, Sierraat- Tahoe will further reduce green house gas emissions by encouraging no-idling cars; implementing carpooling resources at SierraAtTahoe.com to help guests connect and share rides; and by purchasing only 100 percent compostable, disposable products for all restaurants. In fact, all plates, bowls, cups and flatware will be made from renewable sources such as sugar cane, potato starch and corn resin.
